The publication provides an EU-wide overview of Natura 2000 implementation in forests, based on the analysis of 63 best practice cases drawn from 18 countries and three policy reports. These examples illustrate how national regulations, guidelines and local scientific studies have translated the EU Nature Directives into practice. Alongside the overview, a detailed case study of Baden-Württemberg demonstrates how integrated policy, legal and economic frameworks, combined with practical measures for habitat and species management, can serve as a model of effective implementation. Together, these insights underline the diversity of approaches across Europe and the potential for sharing lessons to strengthen Natura 2000 in forests.
