This report analyses data from 249 marteloscope plots and nearly 100,000 individual tree records across 26 European countries. Marteloscopes are forest training and demonstration sites where every tree is mapped and assessed to support learning, research, and dialogue on sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation. The study explores tree species composition, diameter distributions, tree microhabitats (TreMs), habitat values, stand structure, economic values, and forest biodiversity patterns across European biogeographical regions. By combining ecological and management indicators, the report demonstrates how the growing marteloscope network can support research, training, and evidence-based decision-making while fostering discussion on the integration of biodiversity conservation into multifunctional forest management.
