Online Interface Model Ensemble Tool for Soil Organic Carbon Dynamics Simulation

Online access to a free tool for improved land and forest management that simulates soil carbon storage and greenhouse gas (GHG) changes under various scenarios.

The tool is based on six models (Century, Roth-C, ICBM, Yasso07, Yasso20, SG) and is also available as an R script.

This tool (operated via the R software package or an interactive online interface) enables simulation of soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks and greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes (CO₂, CH₄, N₂O) using a multi-model ensemble composed of Century, Roth-C, ICBM, Yasso07, Yasso20, and the empirical SG model. The tool supports custom data input as well as sourcing of publicly available data, and runs scenarios under IPCC RCPs, SSP2 land-use change, and management disturbance assumptions. As the most advanced development, it takes into account information such as microbial biomass, soil structure, hydrology, and trophic networks.

Forest owners, managers and practitioners as well as funding providers for sustainable and integrative practices
can use the tool to understand how current or future management strategies may impact soil carbon and emissions. Whether the objective is to plan a harvest, manage post-disturbance recovery, or comply with carbon monitoring targets and achieve climate change mitigation objectives, the tool - developed in the context of the HoliSoils project - can help forecast and improve long-term soil health and soil organic carbon dynamics cross different biogeoclimatic zones.
