Policy and practice review of compatibility and suitability of climate change adaptation and integrated forest management measures in Europe.jpg

This article reviews existing policy frameworks and practical forest management measures across Europe to assess how climate change adaptation and integrated forest management (including nature conservation integration into sustainable forest practices) are compatible and suitable at different scales (stand, landscape, policy). It uses literature and survey analyses to categorise and compare adaptation and integrative approaches across European bioclimatic zones.

The article provides a comprehensive policy and practice review as part of the INFORMAR project, analysing scientific literature and survey data to identify and categorise forest management measures that integrate nature conservation principles (i.e., integrated forest management) and climate change adaptation across Europe. It examines how these measures function and interact at the stand, landscape and policy levels, encompassing different European bioclimatic zones. The review draws on scientific studies on sustainable forest management and climate adaptation, as well as questionnaires developed by the Forest Europe Expert Group on Adaptation to Climate Change. Its aim is to understand compatibility, suitability and gaps in how integrated management and adaptation objectives are reflected in policy and practice.
