Seed4Forest is a Europe-wide decision-support tool that guides users in selecting climate-resilient tree species, species mixtures, and provenances for forest restoration and management. It integrates up-to-date scientific models—including species distribution, productivity, mixture suitability, and provenance guidance—to assess the performance of multiple species under current and future climate conditions. By combining species- and genetic-level information, the tool enables spatially explicit analysis and supports evidence-based adaptation strategies, such as assisted migration.
Seed4Forest is a decision-support tool designed to help users identify the most suitable tree species, species mixtures, and provenances for any location across Europe. By combining the latest scientific evidence with practical guidance, it supports climate-smart forest restoration and helps address both current and future climate challenges.
The tool provides tailored recommendations on species selection, species composition, productivity, and provenance choice. It includes species distribution models for 38 tree species, productivity models for 25 species, mixture recommendations covering 75 species, and provenance guidance for 24 species. These datasets enable users to perform spatially explicit analyses and to compare the expected performance of different species across a range of climate scenarios and time horizons.
By integrating information at both species and genetic levels, Seed4Forest enhances evidence-based decision-making and supports the development of robust climate adaptation strategies in forest management, including measures such as assisted migration.
