3.3 Materials, tools and supplies

  • Marta Nowack

“I need to create a new management plan for my forest area. I want to increase biodiversity and adapt my forest to climate change, whilst not changing much of our current way of doing things, and I would like to understand how to move forwards with this.”

Prioritizing sustainable and locally sourced materials helps reduce the ecological footprint of restoration projects. Digital tools, like GIS, can support clear tracking and organization of these resources.

The selection and purchase of materials, tools, and other supplies should be done with minimal environmental impact. Whenever possible, choose sustainably produced, locally sourced, and reusable or biodegradable options. Environmentally responsible procurement contributes to the overall sustainability of the restoration project and reduces its ecological footprint.

In addition to purchasing, a clear inventory is indispensable. The use of digital GIS tools can play a significant role here. These tools enable not only the creation of detailed maps of the site, but also documenting the locations of materials, tools, and supplies.
